Seminar – Finding High Performance Computing in Unexpected Places: An adventure from theory to application

December 7, 2017 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 pm PST

Co-sponsored by: Seattle Education Society

In this talk I will discuss a journey from HPC and AI theory to a most unexpected application.  An important part of research involves connecting the dots between different areas of Computer Science and finding places where the theoretical research can be driven by very tangible, “mundane” applications.  I will give a brief introduction to the field of High Performance Computing and its relation to Artificial Intelligence in modern computing.  I will then discuss how these two fields, together with Software Engineering and Data Analysis, can help with career-path exploration for students like you.  Most importantly, I want to share my experience with putting theory into practice, thinking about today’s professional trends.
