Mari Ostendorf Reception and Lecture on Speech Signal Processing

August 3, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm PDT

The Seattle Signal Processing Society (SeaSiPS) would like to welcome you to our inaugural event, where we will be honoring 2018 Flanagan Award recipient Mari Ostendorf for her outstanding contributions to speech signal processing research. Mari will then honor us with a talk on current research in the field, in particular some work that she is doing on context-aware language models and prosody detection.

With the market booming with NLP (Natural Language Processing) applications, speech signal processing is a very exciting field to be in right now. One obvious example is the ongoing competition for the best in-home personal assistant among the big four: Amazon, Apple, Google, and Microsoft. These giants are flooding job searches with ads for engineers with a background in speech and machine learning. Even if audio signal processing is not your area, now is an excellent time to familiarize yourself with the field to stay current with industry trends.

This event is free for all to attend. We would like to track member participation however, so please don’t forget to sign-in at the door.
