[Legacy Report] Superconductor Power Cable Solutions for Dense, Urban Cities

December 7, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 4:59 pm PST

Utilities are under increasing pressure to improve their ability to serve electric power loads in urban environments. At the same time, costs for acquiring land and performing construction projects in those urban environments are skyrocketing and there is a growing demand that utility infrastructure be placed underground for aesthetic and security reasons.

AMSC’s Resilient Electric Grid (REG) solutions based on High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) power cables provide substantial relief to utilities that face pockets of urban load growth, space constraint challenges and demands for higher levels of reliability and resilience. REG solutions are an alternative to transmission equipment that allows utilities to move bulk power into and around urban areas with equipment that is underground, compact, efficient and at distribution voltages.
