IEEE Tech Talk Solar IEEE Std 1562-2021 Photovoltaic Power Systems
January 26, 2022 @ 3:00 am - 4:00 am UTC
Join us for our IEEE Tech Talk on the NEC Article 690 Photovoltaic Power Systems on Tuesday January 25, 2022 at 7 pm PST. Find out important construction and safety issues concerning the installation and operation of Photovoltaic (Solar Arrays). There are also civil, architectural and security issues to consider, which may require more than just installing locks. We also discuss Solar Photovoltaic Power Systems IEEE 1562-2021 Recommended Practice for Sizing Stand-Alone Photovoltaic (PV) Systems. Recent (2019 and 2021, respectively) updates to IEEE 1013 and IEEE 1562 (from their 2007 editions) for sizing standalone PV panels, charge controllers, and batteries. In the past 15 years, not only have solar panels come way down in price, enabling even more people to economically be off-grid, but charge controller technologies have greatly improved, and solar panel efficiencies have improved as well. Li-ion batteries have also entered the market, as they have many more cycles than past lead-acid and Ni-Cd equivalents, and their price has dropped significantly, while their relatively poor safety record is improving. While IEEE 1013 is specifically focused on lead-acid technologies, its principles are easily applied to other battery technologies. The Q&A portion of this webinar will discuss grid-connected solar and batteries, as well as Fuel Cells.
