Machine Learning in NextG Networks via Generative Adversarial Networks
Machine Learning in NextG Networks via Generative Adversarial Networks
Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) implement Machine Learning (ML) algorithms that can address competitive resource allocation problems together with detection and mitigation of anomalous behavior. In this talk, we discuss their use in next-generation (NextG) communications within the context of cognitive networks to address i) spectrum sharing, ii) detecting anomalies, and iii) mitigating security attacks. GANs have the following advantages. First, they can learn and synthesize field data, which can be costly, time consuming, and non-repeatable. Second, they enable pre-training classifiers by using semi-supervised data. Third, they facilitate increased resolution. Fourth, they enable recovering corrupted bits in the spectrum. The talk will provide basics of GANs, a comparative discussion on different kinds of GANs, performance measures for GANs in computer vision and image processing as well as wireless applications, several datasets for wireless applications, performance measures for general classifiers, a survey of the literature on GANs for i)–iii) above, some simulation results, and future research directions. In the spectrum sharing problem, connections to cognitive wireless networks are established. Simulation results show that a particular GAN implementation is better than a convolutional auto encoder for an outlier detection problem in spectrum sensing. 3rd Annual EECE BBQ!
3rd Annual EECE BBQ!
As part of our program efforts to provide more social opportunities for ALL EECE students to gather as a group, we are happy to announce the 3rd Annual EECE Spring BBQ! This will be your chance to mingle and celebrate the end of the school year. All food and drinks will be provided for free courtesy of the EECE faculty. Grilled burgers and hot dogs will be the main dish. There will also be grilled vegan and gluten-free options provided, as well as a variety of sides and both sweetened and unsweetened drinks. Location Lake Padden East Playground Picnic Shelter The shelter has seating for 50 and is covered, but keep in mind there will be over 200 people invited (and likely at least 100 attending), so if the weather is sunny or rainy, be prepared with sunblock or a jacket/umbrella. Time Friday June 6, 5:00 to 7:00 The barbecue will open at 5:00 and close at 7:00. You are free to come and go as you please, but keep in mind that grilled food will be served starting at 5:00. There is a limit to how fast we can cook food. This year, we will try to have about 50 burgers and dogs ready to go right at 5:00, but there are no guarantees of meat if you show up very late. 4882 Samish Way, Bellingham, Washington, United States
