IEEE Lunch Session IT Redefined
IEEE Lunch Session IT Redefined
It appears 2021 will continue to look like how 2020 ended – offices will remain less than 25% occupied. Digital Workspaces will grow next year as half of the workforce will choose not to go back to the office. Remote workers will be looking for options to save money and consolidate their communication i.e. voice, text messaging, multimedia messaging and fax from any device in any location. Apps are increasing and will drive the cost of managing/monitoring these apps. Customers can benefit from one app that provides all their communications from a common dashboard with one number. We see this with many of our customers regardless of the industry they are in. The benefits of having a simple communication for each business are: - One number for all communications - Simple chat and SMS - Simple collaborations through video conferencing - Simple Analytics – data driven businesses are increasing - Simple Integration Every business will be finding ways to save money and be more profitable next year. IEEE is no different than other businesses. Education is the key to find ways to increase productivity and reduce expense. You don’t want to miss this informational session! EMC Was There at the Beginning
EMC Was There at the Beginning
The Chicago Chapter and co-sponsoring EMCS units welcomes everyone to this informative and entertaining presentation about the roots of our profession. The practice of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is generally understood as beginning with the military in the 1950s. Work in the field was mostly limited to military applications until about 1980, when the FCC in the US and agencies in other countries responded to broadcast interference complaints by setting RF emission limits on commercial products. Though it wasn’t called EMC at the time, those techniques were applied in the late 19th century. Guglielmo Marconi’s company demonstrated wireless telegraphy to the British navy, hoping for a contract to sell the equipment. However, the spark-gap noise bursts transmitted by Marconi’s wireless limited communication to one pair of devices at a time and Marconi had to fix it in order to close the deal. The stories of ambition, salesmanship, and resourcefulness give a colorful backdrop to our work in EMC. In many ways, EMC practices can be traced back to the very beginning of the radio art. This talk will relate those stories and give a deeper perspective on the often unappreciated work of the EMC engineer. Big Data
Big Data
By using computers for an increasing number of activities we continue to produce massive amounts of data that can be analyzed and used in multiple ways. In this presentation we’ll discuss what companies are doing with this data, the positives and negatives of these processes and the ethical implications of having access to so much information.
