Kinetic Energy Storage (Flywheels) – IAS October 2019 Meeting
Everyone is welcome, registration is not required. In today’s evolving data center, industrial, and healthcare markets it is more important than ever to seek out and deploy infrastructure that is more Reliable, Efficient and Sustainable in infrastructure solutions for small to hyper-scale mission critical facilities. Justin Jurek with Piller Power Systems Inc. will lead a technology discussion and presentation focusing on the energy storage within the Uninterruptable Power Supply. Chemical energy storage (batteries) for 5,10, 15 minutes of runtime, or kinetic energy storage (flywheels), 25 – 60+ seconds of runtime. The presentation will review the power train of mission critical systems and the benefits of utilizing kinetic energy storage based UPS technology. The presentation will touch on some field applications utilizing kinetic energy technology integrated into either Static or Rotary UPS. Justin Jurek is responsible for developing and supporting power protection projects for Piller Power Systems in the mission critical marketplace and to be the field-based sales point of contact. He provides both sales and application support in the use and implementation of Piller and Active Power battery-free UPS. Justin has ten years of professional experience in engineering and business development. During his time with Piller AP, he has interacted with a broad spectrum of professionals including datacenter, healthcare, and industrial end users, electrical design engineers, and property developers. His background in UPS systems includes rotary and static UPS, various forms of energy storage including batteries and flywheels, LV and MV distribution, and mission critical microgrid system solutions. MM-wave propagation channels and their impact on 5G system design
Co-sponsored by: CN60049 Title: MM-wave propagation channels and their impact on 5G system design Abstract: Communication in the mm-wave band is an essential part of 5G, allowing to reach the ambitious data rate and throughput goals of IMT-2020. In order to design systems that will work in practice, a thorough understanding – which must be based on measurements in real-world channels - of mm-wave propagation channels is required. This talk provides an overview of such research. After a brief introduction of suitable channel sounders, the talk will concentrate on (i) requirement for street-by-street pathloss models, (ii) dynamics of angular statistics (iii) outdoor-to-indoor propagation in mm-wave bands, and (iv) spatial consistency and the change of second-order channel statistics. The impact of all those channel effects on system design and deployment planning will be elaborated. Bio: Andreas F. Molisch is the Solomon Golomb – Andrew and Erna Viterbi Chair Professor at the University of Southern California. His research interest is wireless communications, with emphasis on wireless propagation channels, multi-antenna systems, ultrawideband signaling and localization, novel modulation methods, and caching for wireless content distribution. He is the author of four books, 20 book chapters, more than 250 journal papers, 340 conference papers, as well as 80 patents. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, IEEE, AAAS, and IET, as well as Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and recipient of numerous awards, including the Sumner award of the IEEE and the Armstrong award of ComSoc. Self-confidence is a positive mental state that stimulates the willpower and potential of an individual. It provides the energy and strength to face various challenges, as well as to empower oneself to be recognized. Many women lack self-confidence for their career development for a variety of reasons. To solve this obstacle, women in engineering need to rely on self-motivation. The growth of women cannot be separated from the advancement of the whole society, and so women in engineering need to be encouraged and given more career opportunities.
