This talk will examine in detail the new optics landscape for datacom and telecom space. The optics industry is at a crossroad driven by the post pandemic huge BW demand at lower cost/power optics from hyperscale data centers for networking and AL/ML applications. The debate on pluggable vs co-packaged optics (CPO) will likely continue to be hot topics in the next few years. We will discuss how data center operators view the future path of photonics integration with switch electronics and their preferred technology choices and timelines. This will impact on how to revolutionize today’s pluggable optics industry with regards to applications, profitability, ecosystems, supply chain as well as uncertainties in the technology. In telecom space, as global operators accelerate the deployment of 5G networks and beyond, promote the differentiated application of 5G multi-services, and release more spectrum resources, the industry is pushing higher bandwidth requirements for high performance fronthaul, midhaul and backhaul optics. Several optical transceiver products are now targeted specifically for this high-volume market. This presentation will focus on latest advances in optical wireless deployment scenarios (e.g. 50G vs 100G Bidi for up to 40km and leveraging 100G and 400G PAM4 based client optics). We will discuss the synergies and differences between today’s mobile transport and future optical 6G networks. V2X - The Cooperative Safety Revolution Despite the development of automotive safety technologies in recent years, road fatalities keep going up. In order to change this reality we need a paradigm shift towards cooperative safety. V2X is the safety network that can protect all road users and bring on a true road safety revolution that will prevent road accidents and save lives. V2X is a wireless communication sensor and thus it is the only sensor able to provide life saving real time information regarding the other road users around us, without the need for line of sight and in any weather and light conditions. Road safety organizations around the world have recognized the vital need for V2X and the technology is in various deployment stages, globally. EuroNCAP, the organization responsible for car safety rating in Europe, is set to include V2X in the safety grading starting from 2025. The era of space commercialization is well underway. At the same time, the space domain is militarily contested and increasingly critical to national security. U.S. private-sector space companies are getting directly involved in military conflicts for the first time. Meanwhile, U.S. military organizations like the Space Force and the National Reconnaissance Office are engaging the private sector in new ways with the goal of trying to retain a U.S. space advantage in the face of growing threats. The convergence between space commercialization and national security space is sure to have a profound impact on both sectors going forward, and it’s more important to our daily lives than most people realize. Quality-of-life in smart cities: a project perspective Maximizing quality of life is essential to the growth of cities and a factor that projects can influence. In this way, they don’t represent instruments or models, but rather choices that project leaders can make to maximize social innovation and progress. The insights gathered from recently concluded data collection (4000 official smart city projects) clearly show project distribution across various quality-of-life dimensions. Education, housing, culture, transportation, spirituality, and many other themes will be addressed in both qualitative and quantitative terms.
